Home Away From Home

I’ve been a digital nomad since 2018.
I started nomading around south east Asia, mainly India. Specifically the foothills of the Himalayas. The mountain views keep me calm and happy.
I started nomading around Europe in 2021 and was looking to stay for a longer time in one place. Moving around became too tiring (and costly).

A friend I made in Macedonia suggested I should check out Four Leaf Clover in Bansko (Bulgaria). She stayed there twice before – first time for 8 months and second time for 3 months. She recommended it for the wonderful community, the welcoming host (Petia) and the great mountain views. It took me another year to get there, but finally I did.

I was warmly welcomed by Petia and Irena in the reception, and a nice clean studio apartment that had everything I needed – a small kitchen (stove, oven and a fridge), a washing machine, a warm shower, comfortable bed and a nice balcony.

I came to Bansko during the off season.
Really off season. September.
At this time, there isn’t a lot to do in Bansko. It is after all the summer festivals and before the ski season.
I did not expect much. But soon, my social schedule was full: I was immediately  added to the WhatsApp FLC group chat and that helped me meet the people staying in FLC, being invited to the community’s weekly potluck / barbique , game nights, karaoke, hikes nearby and other events. I felt I could finally relax, rest and feel at home. So much home, that I keep coming back, again and again. I think I’ve been coming back 6 or 7 times since then, each time for a few months.

I especially enjoy the walks to the monastery, to Belizmata and Krintez Dam, the weekly game night, the potluck and the mountain view from my balcony.

It is the closest thing to a home a digital nomad can ask for.
